Lessons included: - Throwing events (discus, shot, javelin) - Sprinting - Long jump - High jump - Relay All lessons include differentiated activities for more / less able, learning outcomes, teaching points and some have images which can be printed & laminated to use as flash cards. I have found these really useful to use with a range of high & low ability groups.

Edexcel GCSE PE - Skill related components of fitness (lesson, powerpoint, activities)

Includes: Lesson power point and learning outcomes. Starter activity which recaps previous lesson on health related components of fitness. Introduction activity to skill related C.O.F - give each group one of the starter activity sheets - they need to identify the C.O.F being shown. (Speed is being shown in the cover image!) Discuss as a group to name all 6. Give each student one handout of the ‘definition power point’ slides. They need to decide which C.O.F this relates to. (I did this as an exercise where they move around the room and put all the ‘speed’ ones on one table, for example!) Clarify the definitions & sporting examples using the remaining slides on the power point, getting students to complete their worksheet (differentiated). Apply learning by answering one of the exam questions on each C.O.F. (I did this in groups & then got students to write up individual answers after they had discussed how they would answer it). Enjoy

Edexcel GCSE PE - Skill Related components of fitness exam practice

Includes: Lesson plan and learning outcomes. Starter activity to recap previous lessons on health and skill related components of fitness. Differentiated question sheets on each skill related component of fitness - give each student one question sheet for them to answer. (All questions on a particular component of fitness are the same, the low ability sheets have sentence starters, the middle sheets have hint questions and the high ability sheets have bonus marks!). Peer assess - with given hints on the power point of what to look for. Model answers provided for each question, students can then compare to their own answers and make additional changes to perfect their answer. I found this really useful as lots of my students have a good understanding of the content, but struggle to apply it to (sometimes fairly easy!) exam questions.
Edexcel GCSE PE - Components of fitness revision activities & LOOP CARDS

Edexcel GCSE PE - Components of fitness revision activities & LOOP CARDS

(0)
Includes: Revision questions on components of fitness (Differentiated). I did this by giving pairs one of the 3 cards (high ability / middle / low ability) and getting them to choose a question to answer. They needed to create a mark scheme of what they thought should go into a good answer for their question. The questions can then be answered by another pair who give their answer back, and have it marked by the students. Components of fitness loop card game - Print and cut the cards from the power point and hand out to the students. The first one stands up and reads out the question on their card, and the person who has the answer stands up and carries it on. (The cards are printed in the correct order so will need shuffling before handing out!!) The students really enjoyed the loop card game! Creating mark schemes can be difficult, but once they get the hang of it their exam answers will massively improve!

Edexcel GCSE PE - Fitness testing lesson (powerpoint / activities)

(0)
Includes: Power point and learning outcomes. Starter activity similar to scrabble, to create a word relating to the topic using the letter tiles on the screen (good bit of numeracy!) Graffiti wall - students to write what they know about each question on fitness testing - can refer back at the end, really effective to demonstrate progress. Main activity is an information relay. Provide each group with a large, blank handout to complete. One student at a time goes to look at the completed handout at the front / outside the classroom to bring information back to their group. Final slide gives a plenary activity for students to answer some questions on fitness testing.

Edexcel GCSE PE - Components of fitness HOT SEATING activity

(0)
18 slides with professional athletes and a component of fitness which the hot seated student needs to guess. (Obviously sit the hot seated student with their back to the board!!) Great starter / plenary / revision activity which the students really enjoyed. Some struggled with knowing who some of the athletes were, so some discretion may be required to accept answers naming the sport which the athlete is doing, along with the component of fitness given!

PE KS3 Cricket Scheme of Work

(0)
I have created an 8 lesson scheme of work which I will be using after Easter with all of my core PE groups from Y7-9. They are designed to be easily adaptable to allow for changes to be made to suit groups of different abilities / needs. Each practice allows for scaffolding for less able students and progressions for more able students. Each lesson includes a warm up / starter activity, learning outcomes, a skill development practice with progressions and a game at the end. The groups I will be working with will generally be fairly low ability for cricket, which means the main focus of this S.O.W is developing batting and fielding skills. I will develop bowling by using underarm / throw downs / drop feeds if necessary. I will also be using these games and skill development practices with my KS4 groups. Most of the activities in this SOW can be taught in an indoor environment - which is useful due to the weather we are likely to get! We have indoor nets which will allow me to adpat lessons to having some students working on batting / bowling in the nets, and others working on catching skills / fielding on the other side. I have also included some resource cards for batting, bowling and fielding. I don’t often use them in lessons, although some may find them useful.

Edexcel GCSE PE Practical Handball assessment criteria

(0)
I created these slides to use in practical PE lessons with my GCSE group & displayed them in the sports hall where we do handball lessons. I found the criteria for practical sports assessment very wordy and difficult for the students to comprehend what level they are working at, or how to progress to the next level. It has been really useful to assist with peer assessment in lessons, as students can easily understand what is expected of a performer working at a specific level. The terminology used was based on the criteria for Edexcel (2016). Other exam boards are very similar, although the grading may differ.

I created a mock assessment to use after teaching the Sport Psychology unit from the new Edexcel GCSE Spec. (Component 2, topic 2). Exam questions found from previous Edexcel assessments with the same / similar content. Assessment - Follows the structure to that of a real assessment, multiple choice questions, variety of short answer questions and a 9 mark question to finish. Mark scheme included. Asessment /35. Powerpoint - Goes through each question and reveals answers. Good to use as a feedback lesson.

Created for Edexcel GCSE (New spec) - Component 2: Topic 1 - Health, fitness and well-being. Includes 25 cards and answers. Question on the right, the answer is on the left of a different card. Excellent way of engaging all students in a revision activity. Additional slides can be added in to create more questions. I have also produced a set for topic 2 and 3 from component 1.

Edexcel GCSE PE - Exam question practice (whole lesson)

Created for the Edexcel GCSE PE (New Spec). Powerpoint includes 3 questions from component 2 - health & performance. (3-6 mark questions). The focus of the lesson is to help students gain a better understanding of how to interpret questions & know what to include in their answer. Includes a table of common command words and a brief definition. Demonstrates how to break down a question before attempting to answer it. 2/3 questions provide model answers which students can assess (WWW/EBI) before answering the question for themselves. Final question gives students the mark scheme after they have completed it - hopefully hteu will have a better idea of how to gain full marks by this point! Visual Powerpoint timers included - encouraging students to work on the questions for a realistic amount of time.

I created this lesson using last years assessment to help my students understand how to answer questions & get them used to understanding what questions are asking for. The lesson looks at 3 questions from component 1 - on muscle actions, heart rate and antagonistic muscle pairs. Includes printable slides to use as support in lesson. The powerpoint breaks down the question & includes model answers & mark schemes to self assess! I have also created a similar lesson for component 2!
